The mission of the Youth Ministry at Holy Trinity
Lutheran Church is to encourage youth in their spiritual growth during
their formative years helping them strengthen their relationship with
Christ and helping them form long-lasting relationships with other
Christian youth and adults. The goal of the ministry is to involve the
youth in the life of the church, to create an “outwardly focused” group
involved in service and missions work, and to create a warm and
welcoming atmosphere of Christian fellowship.
All young people of the church in grades 6 through 12 are
encouraged to take part in the weekly Sunday evening and mid-week
activities. Monthly schedules of the times and locations of Youth
activities and events are mailed to each youth and are available in
several places in the church. Activities include youth meetings in the
Youth Room downstairs, monthly Snack Suppers held in various youth’s
homes, service projects, fun outings (bowling, laser tag, and putt putt,
for example), Bible studies, and more. The “Youth Room” features a TV,
pool table, game table, and a wonderful lounge area in which to build a
community of Christian friends and support.
Our youth have several retreats each year. Each year they have a Fall
Retreat and Spring Retreat held at area church camps. They attend the
annual All Tennessee Lutheran Youth Gathering, which is held in various
places throughout the state.
They attend the huge youth rally Resurrection, held each January in
Gatlinburg. And they attend the National Lutheran Youth Gathering, which
takes place every three years. To help defray the costs of these
retreats, the youth sponsor a variety of fundraising activities
throughout the year with the help and support of the congregation.
Many other activities are held throughout the year such
as lock-ins, hiking, bicycle trips, white water rafting, camping, rock
climbing, hay rides, lake days, pool parties, and ski trips. An integral
part of the ministry is a focus on missions and service projects. The
youth take part in outreach events such as One Homeless Night, the 30
Hour Famine, and Operation Christmas Child. They do various service
projects both at the church and through community organizations such as
the Salvation Army, Hope House, and Carpenter’s Helpers. And the youth
take a week-long mission trip to Johns Island, SC each June.
